Join me to create your own hand-knotted gemstone necklace! I will provide all of the materials - tools, silk cord, clasps and findings - and set up a dazzling buffet of all natural semi-precious gemstone beads. We’ll talk about what makes these minerals so special, play around with design ideas, and then I’ll share my meditative technique for tying the piece. You’ll try your hand at the technique and, with tips and support along the way, leave with your very own custom necklace.
Geologic Background
As a geologist, I find the natural history of various minerals - the story they tell through their composition and formation - fascinating. I want to share some of these minerals’ unique characteristics so that you can select stones that reflect your own inspiration.
Design Principles
I believe that meaningful jewelry tells a story, and creates connection. Together we will explore your inspirations and values, and learn to apply basic design principles like color theory and composition to create a design that is personal, meaningful, and reflects your aesthetic.
Technical Instruction
Hand-knotting a gemstone necklace is a process that simultaneously requires focused attention to detail while also allowing your mind to drift into creative flow state. I’ll share my process from start to finish, and cover both the technical details as well as the creative mindset necessary for the process. You’ll get all the tips and support you need to create a necklace that you love.

All supplies will be provided, including tools, your choice of beads from a buffet of diverse options (enough to make one necklace), silk cord, and clasps and other findings. You’ll take home a completed necklace, and you don’t need to bring anything except a creative spirit open to the process.

I want these experiences to be about community, creativity, and connection. In that spirit, I have adopted a sliding scale pricing model that takes the whole community into account. The Standard Rate covers my costs and operating expenses (including materials, a fair wage for myself, and the other costs of running a business). I also offer an Accessible Rate to anyone who may find that the Standard Rate won’t work for them; this Accessible Rate is made possible by others who choose the Community Supporter Rate, which is slightly higher than the Standard Rate. Trust is an inherent part of the sliding scale price model: you trust my pricing to be fair and honest and I trust you to select the rate that is most appropriate.
